World’s Easiest Tomato Sauce Recipe – perfect for pasta, pizza & chicken

I LOVE this recipe. It is so quick, and so easy – and tastes so much better than buying a pasta sauce from the supermarket! It’s made up of only seven ingredients and takes no more than half an hour to make from start to finish. It’s also a perfect recipe for anyone who thinks that can’t cook – as long as you can chop an onion and open a can of tinned tomatoes, you can make this sauce. It’s that easy!

This recipe uses both tinned tomatoes and passata – which means that it’s smooth enough to coat pasta but there are still chunks in the sauce. Tomato and basil is a classic combination, and including a little chilli and the balsamic vinegar means there’s depth to the flavour.

I’ve used this sauce as the base for home-made pizza, cooked a rabbit stew with this sauce as a base and eaten a late night supper of pasta with tomato sauce and mozzarella - it really is a brilliant base for so many meals. It also freezes well; so it’s perfect to make a double batch and stick a few portions in the freezer – especially good for when you want a quick pasta snack! This sauce is also brilliant for slow-cooker meals – just add some chicken thighs to the slow cooker with this sauce and some mozzarella and some sweetcorn. Leave for a few hours and return to a tasty meal where the chicken falls off of the bone!

This super-easy recipe for a home-made tomato sauce has only 7 ingredients, and is perfect for pasta dishes, cooking chicken or even putting on pizza!

Ingredients

  • 1 tin chopped tomatos
  • 1 carton tomato passata
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 red chilli
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
  • 1 bunch basil (torn into pieces)

Directions

Step 1
Dice the onions and fry them in a pan with a little olive oil until translucent.
Step 2
Once the onions have softened, add the chopped chilli and sauté them with the onions and the garlic.

Once the chilli and garlic have released their flavour, add the balsamic vinegar and allow it to reduce.
Step 4
Next, add the tinned tomatoes and the the carton of passata.

Alloow everything to heat up and reduce slightly. Season the sauce well.
Step 6
Finally, take torn basil leaves and stir them into the sauce.
